The Lone Tree at Milarrochy Bay

If you’ve researched Loch Lomond before, you’ve likely seen this lonely tree on the beach of Milarrochy Bay. Jutting out of the water and starkly interrupting the flow of the landscape, it makes for a spectacular photo op – especially at dusk or dawn when the light hits the water, reflecting golden hues that will give your Instagram that WOW factor. It also makes a magical spot to pop the question for your proposal. Learn more about the best spots to propose in Loch Lomond.

How to find the Lone Tree at Milarrochy Bay

Use postcode G63 0AL for a large, free car park. The car park is locked ‘out of hours’, but there is a sign with times it’s open which is located beside the main gate. There is enough space for one or two cars on the grass verge outside the gate and there are toilets on site.

From the Top of Ben Lomond

Climbing to the top of Ben Lomond should be on your bucket list! With over 120K posts on it’s hashtag on Instagram. For mountaineers of any level, Ben Lomond is a popular choice. Located on the eastern shore of Loch Lomond, it’s the most southerly of the Munros, with a summit of over 3,000 feet, but the views along the way are so worth the effort. There are several well-maintained trails to choose from.

Snap a selfie to mark your accomplishment upon reaching the top and, with a bit of luck, the views will be clear and you’ll have the perfect new profile pic to show off on your socials.

As with any mountain climb, safety should be a top priority. In the event of an emergency, call 999, ask for Police and then Mountain Rescue.

Rest and Be Thankful

Located in Arrochar, this unmissable viewpoint is only accessible by car. The views are truly spectacular as you wind around the peaks on this iconic road and will make for a fantastic addition to your Instagram account. This location has over 19K posts on Instagram, cementing it as one of Loch Lomond’s most famous, and loved locations.

From this famous Scottish spot, you can see the old valley road, engineered by General Wade during the subjection of Scotland following the Jacobite rebellion. To commemorate the completion of this road, a stone was erected in 1750. You can find this stone near the junction of the A83 and the B828.

For centuries, this spot has been known as Rest and Be Thankful (or simply The Rest), as travellers would use the spot to rest after the steep and gruelling climb up to the top – at 803 feet at its highest point. Over the years, its legend has only grown and has now secured its spot as one of Loch Lomond’s best views and a place on our list of best photo spots.

The roaring of the water as it cascades down the darkened rock into the crystal clear waters below makes for a breath taking photo.

To reach this spot, make your way to the Inversnaid Hotel, about an hour and ten minutes from Cameron House. From here, it’s around a five-minute walk to the waterfall.
