Cameron House 200 Years In The Making
Cameron House Announces a Programme of Celebrations to Mark its 200th Anniversary
2023 marks the 200th anniversary of Scottish luxury resort, Cameron House on the bonnie banks of Loch Lomond. To celebrate, the iconic hotel has announced it will be hosting a year-long programme of events, initiatives, and experiences to delight guests from all over the world in an inspiring setting, with views across the shimmering waters of Loch Lomond, tranquil countryside and towering Trossachs beyond.
Whilst the luxury property opened as a hotel in 1990, the baronial estate’s fascinating history dates back to the 15th century. It was in 1823, however, under the ownership of the Smolletts, a local family of shipbuilders and artists, when plans were finalised for extensive renovations to take place, that would transform the home into a grand baronial mansion, known today as Cameron House hotel.
Over the last two centuries, Cameron House has heralded a new era for Scottish hospitality, becoming a popular destination for locals, travellers, royals and political stalwarts. During the 1900s, both Sir Winston Churchill and Empress Eugenie of France visited, and in the 1970s, it was home to a popular bear park for more than 20 years.
In homage to its history, Cameron House will deliver a host of experiences throughout the year, encouraging guests and visitors to explore the fascinating heritage of the resort and the people who have contributed to the property’s success and renown. These will include:
- An exclusive competition for guests to submit their favourite memories from previous stays at Cameron House, for the chance to win a two-night stay in an impressive Auld House Suite.
- It’s the year of 200! 200 of the resort’s stylish rooms will be offered for an inviting £200 each*.
- A ‘Celebration Package’ in partnership with ROX Jewellers will offer guests a chance to celebrate their own special moments in 2023. The experience includes an overnight stay in one of the hotel’s finest Auld house suites, followed by a chauffeur transfer for a private shopping experience with champagne at the jewellers’ renowned city-centre store, complete with a £500 voucher. Priced at £920 per room booking.
- Cameron House will launch its first-ever newspaper, ‘The Cameron’; a luxury editorial dedicated to showcasing more from the property and its surrounds. From the most remarkable experiences on Scotland’s west coast to seasonal recipe pull-outs, and a cover-star interview with the hotel’s leisure ambassador, Dame Katherine Grainger.
- The team at the Great Scots Bar have also crafted a series of new Signature cocktails including an ‘Ode to an Old Fashioned’, considered to be Cameron House’s ‘original’ cocktail dating back to the 18th Century
- In the luxurious Lobby Bar, a new summer afternoon tea will celebrate one of the UK’s best-loved dining traditions while commemorating 200 years, with a selection of special recipe dishes. Prices start from £50 per person.
Allan Wilson, General Manager at Cameron House said:
“We have a fantastic history on the banks of Loch Lomond, and it has been remarkable to revisit the milestones from the last two centuries and more, as we celebrate the hotel’s 200th anniversary.
“We are extremely fortunate to operate in one of the country’s most scenic landscapes, so full of interesting people and stories. Our team are at the heart of the resort, and so as well as putting on events for our guests, this year will also be a celebration of current and former Clan Cameron members who have made the resort such a special place. We’re really looking forward to welcoming visitors from all over the world to share this year with us.”
